Winter Fly Tying with Rick Estes

Owls Roost Outfitters owner, Rick Estes of Ossipee, N.H. has developed a life-long passion for fishing.  First taught to him by his mother and later influenced by world famous fly tiers like Jim Warner and Lefty Harris in his hometown of Wolfeboro. Rick started tying flies at an early age and has been doing so in earnest for over 40 years. He now offers clinics at The Bethel Inn Resort, where you’ll learn to tie everything from pupae to dries and everything in between.

Program date:  March 22nd…  space is still available, register today.

March 22 ~ Upper Androscoggin River Classics in conjunction with the Western Maine Fly Fishing Expo.

If you are planning to attend the Western Maine Fly Fishing Expo, or if you just want expert advise on fly fishing the Upper Androscoggin River, come and join us on Friday before the Expo and learn to tie the flies Androscoggin River Guides rely on. Rick Estes will be instructing on the flies, the materials used and when and how they are used. This is more than just your typical fly tying clinic. This class will give you new insights into fishing the Androscoggin River.  From typical nymphs to dries like the Hair Wing Alder Fly, you will get an up close look at the flies used by river guides on this great fishery.  The typical hatches, as well as the flies that are used to imitate them, will be discussed at length. This is a novice/intermediate level course, and all materials will be supplied. You should plan to bring your own tools and portable lights, but if there is something you think you are lacking, with advanced notice, arrangements can be made to meet your needs.  The goal of this class is to introduce you to some flies that you probably have not tied before, and to use some materials in new and imaginative ways.
